Changing the World Through Music
The 26th annual People's Music School "Performathon" was held on Saturday, April 10 and featured student performances from 10am to 6pm in our on-site concert hall. The Performathon is free and open to the public. Donations help us change the world through music and are always accepted.
What is Performathon?
Twenty-four years ago, the People's Music School started this annual fundraising event which involves student participation, which has become the annual Performathon. Every student, together with their private instructor, chooses a piece of music to perform on the day of the Performathon. Fundraising happens when each student finds as many sponsors as possible for his or her performance as well as from guests. Each student will receive a sponsor sheet to record the names of their sponsors as well as the amount pledged.
Why Do We Have Performathon?
Performathon gives every student a chance to help their school continue its mission of offering high-quality tuition-free music education. Performathon gives the community another opportunity to attend a concert and to learn about the school, while providing students with the educational experience of public music performance. Also, the dedicated and skilled teachers at the People's Music School are long overdue for a much-deserved raise and Performathon funds will help us achieve the goal of better compensating our talented faculty and bringing them closer to market-rate pay.
