Plans for the 2021-22 School Year
Classes will start on October 4, 2021 and all classes will be virtual.
We remain hopeful about welcoming students, families and our staff back for in-person activities at our facilities for spring semester, but will reassess the safety conditions throughout the year and keep families and students updated.
Dear TPMS Families,
Everything we do at People’s is about creating the best, most excellent community and environment for your child to grow in music and in character. We believe music creates the best toolkit for a human being and for society. And frankly, the world needs more music now than ever before.
We have made the difficult decision that The People’s Music School will remain a virtual-only program through this semester. We believe this is both necessary and essential to provide a program of the highest quality and safety for your child. To accommodate this change in plans, virtual classes will now begin the week of October 4th for all program sites. We will phase in in-person activities this fall, but do not expect to resume a normal in-person schedule until after the new year.
This decision was made with great care and deliberation. You should know that our teachers have literally been having dreams about seeing your child in-person and creating musical joy together. This is as disappointing for us as it may be for many of you.
While we do believe that the best way to teach music is in-person, the regulations and guidelines necessary for safe instruction were creating trade-offs in education quality. Masks that would hide mouth shape for oboe, bags that would cover the entire flute to prevent aerosol spreading, string students that would have to be in pod groups for 2 hours with one teacher instead of experiencing different class types… the risks and trade-offs were not worthwhile compared to what we could deliver virtually.
We understand that this is likely frustrating and disappointing news, and we deeply apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment this change may cause.
Please know that we want to be in-person and are doing everything in our power to make this a reality as soon as safely possible. At the same time, we are shifting focus to make this a terrific semester for your child. We will be reaching out next week to provide more specific information about your child’s program and additional opportunities (especially for our newer students starting on instruments and in Music Fundamentals).
If you have questions, concerns, or feedback, please reach out to us directly. Our contact information is listed below, and we are more than happy to connect with you.
Thank you so much for being a part of our family at People’s. We look forward to seeing your child online starting week of October 4, and in person next semester.
