Transforming Lives Through Music
Dean of Learning & Teaching
"My entire career has been dedicated to the idea that the experience of learning and making music has tremendous power. Yes, students who make music can explore their talent, have fun, and make friends, which are all important. However, I have seen firsthand the true transformation that takes place when a student discovers that they can perform something they never thought possible, work harder than they ever have before, create something new out of thin air, and build something beautiful with others. That kind of learning experience truly unlocks incredible potential in children. I am proud to work for an organization that places the transformational power of learning music at the forefront of everything we do with our students."
Manager of Administration
Director of Development
"I was drawn to The People's Music School because of the belief that music opens doors and bridges communities, and all young people deserve to explore their passions in a safe, supported environment. True potential is only realized when students have a strong network of support and encouragement, and The People's Music School delivers exactly that. I am motivated daily by the real impact I witness in our students' young lives."
"There is so much power in music education, but the barrier to entry is equally high. As the daughter of a music teacher, removing this barrier is incredibly important to me. People's not only provides access to free, exceptional music education to children across Chicago, but creates a strong, supportive community that makes real and measurable change in each child's (and staff member's!) life both in and out of the classroom."
"Studying music provided me with so many opportunities growing up. I feel grateful to be in a position today where I can help young people experience music and all that it has to offer. The students here are a constant source of inspiration and motivate me to work harder each day."
President & Artistic Director
"Being a part of the The People’s Music School is important to me because it uses music education to create opportunities and build communities. I have seen firsthand the transformation music has had on our students, families, and faculty. Our students inspire and motivate me everyday!
There’s no place like People’s!"
"Music is a powerful tool, a universal language, and a form of communication. The work we do at TPMS is crucial in a world that can see so much progress. I have personally witnessed how artistic excellence can transfer into the everyday lives of my students and am honored to share my skills and show our students the different ways music can transform their communities."
"As a former not-for-profit music student and CPS student, I have been given so many opportunities growing up. I have found my creative outlet, my path, and my mission in life -- to spread the joy of music and to help our students find their voice! TPMS's mission is so near and dear to my heart and I am in constant awe of the students, families, teachers, and staff at People's. It is not just a music school, but it is one big family and community that I am so proud and honored to be a part of!"
"Born and raised in Albany Park by immigrant parents, I identify closely to our community. TPMS allows me to reach out to our families about amazing opportunities for students through music. Seeing firsthand how a young student learns and develops because of the free music education provided by our dedicated faculty is one of the most amazing things i could ever witness and I am very proud and fortunate to be a part of it as Program Coordinator. Knowing that if it were not for the free music education provided by TPMS that our most talented students would not have tapped into those talents, drives me to continue to serve our community and encourage others to do so."
Director of Artistic Planning & Partnerships
"I believe that all young people deserve the opportunity and support to reach their full potential. This belief is what inspires me to work for The People's Music School. I have the amazing privilege of seeing hundreds of young people overcome obstacles, find their inner greatness, and lift up their communities each and every day in our programs. To be part of this incredible story of music changing lives is an endless source of motivation!"
Associate Director of Students, Families & Alumni
"Rita Simó always knew how music could transform lives, but she also knew how important it was to build a support system -- our amazing community of students, teachers, staff, family, friends and neighbors, which really makes the magic happen."
