The People’s Music School is pleased to announce we were selected to participate in the Immersive Music Challenge (IMC), an implementation and longitudinal study led by the D’Addario Foundation. The Foundation has launched the IMC to demonstrate, across multiple sites throughout the United States, the impact immersive music can have on children’s academic performance and mental wellbeing.
As an Immersive Music Challenge implementation partner, TPMS will receive five years of generous grant support from the D’Addario Foundation, as well as donations of instruments and supplies for our students and our program. We are honored to have been selected as an implementation partner for one of the core sites for the Immersive Music Challenge, with our Albany Park program playing a key role in this initiative. We look forward to gaining an even better understanding of the impact our program can have on students, families, and communities, thanks to the support of the D’Addario Foundation.
ABOUT THE PEOPLE'S MUSIC SCHOOL
The People’s Music School (TPMS), a 501(c) (3), is Chicago’s oldest and largest 100% tuition-free music school. We envision a society where all children have access to the unique social, emotional, and intellectual benefits achieved through musical excellence.
We believe music is transformative and empowers the lives of youth, families and communities.
Dr. Rita Simó, a Juilliard-trained classical pianist, was inspired by the free music education she received as a child in the Dominican Republic. Her dream became a reality in 1976, when she opened the doors of The People’s Music School in a vacant storefront in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago.
Today, TPMS has expanded to serve over 800 students from 55 ZIP codes across the Chicago metropolitan area.
