The People’s Music School began as a small storefront in 1979, and has since expanded to cultivate more young, growing minds throughout Chicago. What started out as a vision has now grown into a reality as we impact students and their families in the Uptown, Albany Park, Back of the Yards, and Greater Grand Crossing neighborhoods. We provide a safe and nurturing environment so that each child can reach their highest potential. Led by professionally-trained faculty, students receive intensive music education at for at least four hours each week in our four core areas of music instruction: music theory, group instruction, individual instruction, and performance ensembles.
TPMS’s central learning lab and our largest and founding site. Students ages 5 through 18 receive weekly private instruction in one of 15 different instruments. All students take a mandatory music theory class and participate in one of our 22 ensembles: everything from jazz ensemble to wind chamber group to teen choir and more!

Back of the Yards Youth Orchestra
